"Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Live” opens at the Harbor Playhouse on March 10.
Based on the popular movie, “Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Live” follows all your favorite characters as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar. It opens at the Harbor Playhouse on March 10.
According to Director Christopher Lee Herod, the musical will be “the same story guests will know and love and be able to sing along to. We want the prime audience, the younger generation, to meet their expectations of the characters and be able to connect to and relate with them making it truly an experience for them.”
Herod will make his directing debut with Madagascar. He is a graduating senior at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi majoring in theatre with a focus in acting/directing. He recently directed three shows at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi for his undergraduate directing projects: “Carmen Dick: Feminist Private Investigator” by Brian E. Rochlin, “Blame It On Beckett” by John Morogiello for the One Act Play Festival, and was the assistant director for the 2016 Fall Season main stage production of “Good For Otto” by David Rabe.
Besides directing, Herod has performed in the main stage productions of “Assassins” by John Weidman and Stephen Sondheim and “Argonautika” by Mary Zimmerman.
Assisting Herod will be Micah Blaine, helping to ensure that no stone is left unturned. Music Director is Paul Villareal, a talented accompanist who will be getting the vocal talent up to speed and assisting them in finding the magic in their voices.
Rebecca Juarez also will join the team as choreographer. Juarez is a student at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi and is working on her education major with a minor in dance. She recently choreographed the winning dance for a competition on campus in which her organization won the $1,000 prize.
Also helping behind the scenes will be Joseph Munoz as production manager, Nicholas Juricha as lighting designer, Josh Goldson as set designer and sound designer, and Karen Mauch as costume designer.
